Many engineers move quickly in their careers from engineering to the management of engineering. Recognizing this, the University is developing a program that will enable students to pursue undergraduate engineering and graduate studies in management at the same time. The program allows students to study the engineering field of their choice, including either civil, construction, environmental, mechanical, or electrical engineering, while also pursuing a Master of Arts in Management, with a concentration in project management. This freshman learning community introduces students to this opportunity and the business aspects of engineering in general.
The community is composed of courses that students in both Engineering and Commerce and Business Administration take. These include Economics 110, Freshman Composition (English 101 or 103), and a one-hour integrative seminar (FLC 101) that explores the business of engineering.
The directors of the Business of Engineering freshman learning community are Dr. Robert Morgan, Professor and Chair of Management and Marketing in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, and Dr. Kenneth Fridley, Professor and Chair of Construction and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering.
