This freshman learning community has an ambitious goal: the development of good leaders for the communities of the future. The FLC can be a valuable first-semester experience for any student or it can introduce a program of study leading to a minor in Leadership and Civic Engagement. The minor is especially advantageous for students who plan four years of ROTC participation, but it is also a good choice for all students interested in global affairs, state and national politics, human relations, and conflict resolution.
The courses that compose the community are Freshman Composition (English 101 or 103) and Cooperation and Conflict (NEW 237). The director is Margaret Purcell, who is a community leader in Tuscaloosa.
