For those students whose interests are in the arts but who also want to be involved in the communications industry, this is the Freshman Learning Community to select. Students in this community combine a fine arts course of their choice (theater, music, art history, or film history) with the introductory course, Mass Communications 101.
The community encourages students to learn more about the role of arts criticism and coverage of the arts. The community also would be ideal for those who are interested in communications jobs within arts organizations, including public relations positions for theaters and museums.
Richard LeComte, the director of the FLC, has been a features and arts editor at newspapers and written reviews on dance, music, art, and movies. The community also includes a freshman composition course (English 101 or 103) and the one-hour FLC 101 seminar.
