The Interdisciplinary Global Studies freshman learning community is a valuable experience in its own right, but it can also be the first step toward a certificate in Interdisciplinary Global Studies. The emphasis of the community is on the cultural, economic, physical, and political aspects of world citizenship in the 21st century. The community is open to international and domestic students and envisions interesting exchanges between the two. The community is also an introduction to the numerous study abroad opportunities available to UA students.
The courses that compose the Interdisciplinary Global Studies freshman learning community are a new course entitled Introduction to Global Studies (CIP 200), World Regional Geography (GY 105), and Freshman Composition (English 101 or 103). The community will also include a one-hour integrative seminar (FLC 101).
The director of the Interdisciplinary Global Studies freshman learning community is Dr. Francine James of the University’s study abroad program, Capstone International Programs.
