The University of Alabama

Pre-Law Economics

This Freshman Learning Community explores the relationship between economics and the law. Economic analysis provides an important tool in exploring legal issues and the effects of law on people's behavior. Economics incorporates some important and widely used tools used to study important legal issues. Students in this FLC explore these tools and apply them to real-life legal issues. The FLC also will bring students in close contact with practicing lawyers and judges in order to gain more understanding of this career option.

The FLC is directed by Prof. Harold Elder of the Department of Economics and Finance in the College of Commerce and Business Administration (CBA).

Students are enrolled in a one-hour FLC seminar; Economics 110, which is microeconomics, a required course for students in the CBA that does require that the student be placed above Math 100, college algebra; and freshman composition (either EN 101 or 103).
